Couple dies after mud wall collapses in Tripura, their 3-month-old battles for life
The police identified the couple as Pranesh Tanti, 35, and Jhuma Tanti, 26.
A couple died in West Tripura district on Wednesday after a mud wall collapsed on them while they were sleeping. The wall collapsed amid heavy rainfall prevailing for the last few days in the state. The couple is survived by their daughters, a three-month old baby, who was grievously injured, and a nine-year-old girl, officers said.
The couple was rushed to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala by their neighbours. While Jhuma succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital, Pranesh died while undergoing treatment.
Speaking to The Indian Express, an official from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) said, “Of the couple’s two daughters, Riya, 9, was discharged after basic treatment while the four-month-old daughter, Piu, is undergoing treatment.” All necessary financial assistance will be provided to the family, the official added.
