Kiren Rijiju on Rahul Gandhi: Has to substantiate claims or apologise to House
The Rahul’s remarks that were made on Tuesday were expunged. Rijiju said they have brought the matter to the notice of Speaker Om Birla to take appropriate action.
A day after the Treasury benches accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of making unsubstantiated claims, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said Wednesday that in this case, the member concerned would have to either substantiate his claims or apologise to the House.
“If they lie and mislead on the floor of the House, we have mechanisms in the form of Parliamentary rules and regulations; a notice has been put up to the Speaker to take action,” Rijiju said, talking to reporters after the conclusion of the 264th session of Parliament on Wednesday.
“Action will follow as per the rules under which the appeal has been filed,” he said, adding that this falls under the provisions of Rule 115. Under the said rule, the Speaker can direct the member to furnish details as to under what circumstances he misled the House, Rijiju said.
