On lines of US Marines, 960 newly minted policemen will exclusively combat terror in J-K
The move to deploy a new police force comes amid a spike in infiltration by foreign terrorists from Pakistan. The 960 policemen were recruited from the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have deployed a new force of 960 trained policemen in the border areas of the Union Territory to exclusively work on combating infiltration and terrorism. The move, which many see as following the pattern of the US Marines, comes amid a spike in infiltration by heavily armed foreign terrorists from Pakistan.
Significantly, this is the first-ever force in the Jammu and Kashmir Police whose personnel cannot be deployed for any other duty.
“They will work only on anti-infiltration and anti-terrorism fronts and they will not be deployed as PSOs (personal security officers) or in the office or for any other extra work,” he said, adding, “There are strict restrictions on them”.
